Sustainability at Balliater
At Balliater, we do not see sustainability as a trend, but as a responsibility.
The choices we make regarding materials, design and production determine the impact of our furniture – both today and in the future.
Our approach is based on three key principles:
• responsible materials
• timeless and sustainable design
• responsible production within the Lande Family
Together, these principles ensure that Balliater furniture is built to last, both technically and aesthetically.
Materials with a lower environmental impact
Materials form the basis of every Balliater product. That is why we select materials that combine sustainability, quality and aesthetics.
Smile Plastics
Balliater works with materials from Smile Plastics, an innovative UK-based manufacturer that transforms waste streams into high-quality decorative sheets.
These sheets are made from 100% recycled plastic, sourced from items such as packaging, cosmetic packaging and other plastic waste streams.
Key features
• made from 100% recycled plastic
• unique appearance due to the use of recycled material
• strong and moisture-resistant
• suitable for long-term use in furniture and interiors
• reduces the demand for newly produced plastic
Due to the production process, each sheet has its own character and pattern, giving every product a unique appearance.
Furniture that lasts
Sustainability isn’t just about materials.
One of the most effective ways to reduce environmental impact is to design products that last.
Balliater furniture is designed with long-term use in mind.
This means:
• timeless design that isn’t dependent on short-lived trends
• robust materials that can withstand intensive use
• high-quality manufacturing
• the ability to replace or repair parts
Furniture that is used for many years reduces the need for replacement and thus helps to minimise waste.
Part of the Lande Family
Balliater is part of the Lande Family, a Dutch furniture group with decades of experience in developing and manufacturing high-quality furniture.
Within the Lande Family, we are constantly working to improve processes, materials and product development, with a focus on sustainability.

An ongoing process
Sustainability is not an end point, but an ongoing process.
We continue to seek out new materials, smart designs and ways to further reduce our impact.
Every design choice is an opportunity to do better.
